Welcome to the World of Health and Fitness!!
Good health is important because it helps to insure a long life free of disease. Health also helps to improve how happy you are. You will live longer if you lead a healthy lifestyle.
“It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.”
“The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.”
Health is the level of functional or metabolic efficiency of a living being. In humans, it is the general condition of a person’s mind, body and spirit, …
Our health is the single most important thing we can exert a degree of control over. However, all too often, we take our general good health for granted and it is only when we feel unwell that we become acutely aware of how valuable it is. Achieving and maintaining health is an ongoing process, shaped by both the evolution of health care knowledge and practices, as well as personal strategies and organized interventions for staying healthy.
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” A resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities.”
Health can be divided into two broad aspects – physical and mental health.
Physical health
Physical health means a good body health, which is healthy because of regular physical activity (exercise), good nutrition, and adequate rest. Physical health is important because the body you have is the only one you are ever going to get. If you mess up this vehicle, you can’t trade it in for a new one in a few years. In addition, if you aren’t physically healthy, it is very difficult to enjoy much else life has to offer!
Physical health relates to anything concerning our bodies as physical entities. Physical health has been the basis for active living campaigns and the many nutrition drives that have swept the industrialized world.Other contributors to physical well-being may include proper nutrition, bodyweight management, avoiding hygiene, and getting the right amount of sleep.
Mental health
Mental health is “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”. Mental health refers to people’s cognitive and emotional well-being. A person who enjoys good mental health does not have a mental disorder.
Mental health is a very important aspect of a person’s life. When someone is feeling off mentally it can affect their whole lives. Some mental health problems can even ca use physical pain.
Prolonged psychological stress may negatively impact health, and has been cited as a factor in cognitive impairment with aging, depressive illness, and expression of disease. Stress management is the application of methods to either reduce stress or increase tolerance to stress. Relaxation techniques are physical methods used to relieve stress. Psychological methods include cognitive therapy, meditation, and positive thinking which work by reducing response to stress. Improving relevant skills, such as problem solving and time management skills, reduces uncertainty and builds confidence, which also reduces the reaction to stress-causing situations where those skills are applicable.
Fitness reflects a person’s cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and body composition.
Personal health depends partially on the active, passive, and assisted cues people observe and adopt about their own health. These include personal actions for preventing or minimizing the effects of a disease, usually a chronic condition, through integrative care. They also include personal hygiene practices to prevent infection and illness, such as bathing and washing hands with soap; brushing and flossing teeth; storing, preparing and handling food safely; and many others.
Personal health also depends partially on the social structure of a person’s life. The maintenance of strong social relationships, volunteering, and other social activities have been linked to positive mental health and even increased longevity.
People can improve their health via exercise, enough sleep, maintaining a healthy body weight. The ability to adapt and to self manage have been suggested as core components of human health.
Ensuring you remain healthier for longer is now a goal for many and there are several easy ways to do just that. One of the simplest steps to make towards a healthier you is to alter your diet.
The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don’t want, drink what you don’t like, and do what you’d rather not.”
A low fat, low sugar diet packed with healthier foods such as lean meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, is an easy way to make a positive difference to your health, especially when the diet is part of an all round fitness drive that addresses several key aspects of your lifestyle. If you lead a relatively sedentary lifestyle then exercising more frequently is a great way to improve your health. NHS experts recommend that we exercise for 30 minutes a day, five days a week and that each activity should leave us with a faster heart rate and slightly out of breath for the body to benefit.
